The Chateau Montebello was a perfect getaway. We enjoyed relaxing by the fireplace. Even though it was a rainy weekend there was lots to do...swimming, gym, indoor tennis and squash, and board games. The table d'hote was excellent and very flavorful...good value for the money. I liked the choice of the dessert buffet or a-la-carte. We'll go back in a different season since this is an all-season hotel.
The Sunday Brunch was very good, but it would have been nice to have more hot selections that were actually hot. A crepe or waffle would have been a nice addition.
A unique hotel with a very relaxed, country style atmosphere and a welcome to both children and adults. Basic rooms are on the small side but very adequate. All staff encountered were helpful and friendly. We had the large indoor pool to ourselves for 40mins. Our grandchildren loved the 'log house' - they want to go again.
My husband and I were celebrating our 1 year wedding anniversary. This location was very romantic and special for us. We lunched at the golf club house, had a spa treatment, and danced the night away in the bar/bistro. It had a great 2 piece band that played a lot of good old rock and roll which we totally enjoyed. Every staff member that we encountered was very courteous and polite. We are going to make this a tradition!
Eating at the Chateau Montebello is very pricey. I feel that every menu is overpriced. Making the trip into Montebello for dinner and breakfast is well worth it.
The hotel is absolutely beautiful. The architecture and atmosphere is one of a kind. The log structure is beautifully maintained and keeps that old-style feel.
When you are paying more than $200 per night, charging $10 per day for parking when there are no other parking options in the area and $13.95 per day for internet when many hotels offer it as complimentary, at least in the lobby, seems like gouging. While this is a high-end and unique Fairmont resort, the price for food and drinks also seems to be excessive.
The Atmosphere, and resort was wonderful. People were very accommodating!
The indoor pool says it is heated, but it was very cold...not nice on a winter day! Food was great but got cold very fast. Not sure if it was the temp. in the dining room or it had sat on the line too long.
the location and the staff. Good restaurant. Beautiful wood architecture, nice pools.
The bathroom was not clean(bath with mildew). paying parking
Rooms spacious, well equipped and had a great view. Great atmosphere and very Canadiana! Plenty of options in terms of things to do. Well-organized. Staff very friendly. Will definitely go back!
Dinner in the main dining room was planned to be a highlight of our stay but turned out to be a major disappointment. Paid top dollar for two meals but they were sub-standard. This is otherwise a great hotel with a LOT going for it. I`m hoping that our own experience with the food was just an anomoly.
The main building is an interesting old log structure, apparently the largest of its kind in Canada/North America. Hotel grounds are spacious.
The hotel, being so old, does not meet modern comfort requirements. Standard room are small, bathrooms tiny. Funny thing: there were 2 bathroom robes available in our room, both size "small", totally useless to us. Rates for the rooms are very high, due to 5 star designation, however, for example an inetrnet hook up is extra $ 10 per day, as well as many activities on the premises, such as miniature golf, etc. are extra. Food: our group booked Saturday night barbeque and Sunday branch. Quality and selection of the served food was reasonable, but we found it much overpriced. Golf: round of golf per person, including cart was $ 94.00. Again, having played many golf courses all around the world, we found this one overpriced. Yes the layout is challenging, but the quality is not in the range they charge. More like a $ 65.00 course.
1)Proximity to Ottawa where we live. 2)Ambiance...luxury hotel with "rustic" look.....high end rustic. 3)Availability of activities...pool, gym,Xcountry skiing, snowshoeing 4)Food amazing....anything is better with butter, cream and/or maple syrup 5)Staff pleasant, helpful and willing to tolerate our attempts to speak French
Really no complaints
Everyone there was very helpful, friendly and accomodating. The food is great and the grounds are beautiful.
The gym needs to serious updating, there needs to be an more inexpensive option for lunch, or snacks.
Everything!! Its a little piece of paradise
Old world historic charm with many modern conveniences. Great for kids or couples.
It's a bit pricey. We'd travel there much more if it was more affordable.
We liked the outdoors very much : beautiful gardens, clean pool, numerous activities. We enjoyed the barbecue very much : excellent food, service with a smile from everyone, lovely terrace. Breakfast was also very good. The staff at the pool and in the restaurants were friendly and competent. There could be more smiles and cordiality at the reception desk.
Uncomfortable beds with mattresses which are too soft like in the old days. It gave me a back ache. Even if the hotel is old and traditional, the mattresses should be firm and up-to-date. The choice of films for the children is not interesting at all, they are old fashioned, nothing recent and appealing.
Friendly staff reconciled a problem that arose when Booked.net had not transferred the reservation to the hotel. Great meals with very attentive service.
location facilities ambience
When booking was not given details of package options. As a result we paid a higher amount for the first night and I am still not sure of whether I could have 'saved' money by 'buying' a package Food in the pub was cold on one occassion. Probably you didn't microwave the fish long enough and the cold plates didn't help.
